OpenDUNE 0.08(8)

OpenDUNE is an open source re-creation of the popular game “Dune II”, originally made by Westwood Studios, and released by Virgin Entertainment.
It attempts to re-create the original game and apply modern technology to it to allow it to be run natively on most operating systems.

The S60 version of OpenDune is based on the pre0.8 version.

Midi is enabled by using a special version of sdl_mixer which has a scummvm midi player which supports the xmidi format.

You can change the music file used by supplying a different dune.cfg file (or use the dos setup program to change).
The different configs to use are supplied in the same folder as this read me (c:\data\opendune)

1. Pc Speaker uses the single channel midis
2. Tandy uses the three channel tandy midis.
3. Sound Canvas is using the C55 midi files.
4. Rest (adlib, mt32, sbpro) is using the xmi files.

The game supports bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

To enable game play on the regular phone the following mapping has been implemented.
To get normal numbers where needed, use *+number key.

Keyboard Commands:

0 - A - Attack
1 - B - Build It
2 - D - Deploy or Destruct
3 - G - Guard
4 - O - On Hold
5 - P - Place It
6 - R - Retreat or Return
7 - H - Harvest
8 - U - Upgrade
9 - S - Stop

  2. Hi!
Are you sure that you have correctly placed datafiles ?
    !:\OpenDune\Data\"and datafiles" ?
Just unrar the rar with datafiles and place it on your memory card.

    Cheers !

  3. Thanks! You have amazing taste in choosing which old games to port! :D
My phone is Nokia E5, and the game is running greater than great, but it didn't start the first time I tried. Whenever I pressed the game icon, it showed the starting activity, but all it did is just a blink of the screen. Next I've just put the entire contents of the usual Dune II '93 DOS folder from my HDD archive and it worked! Just for the curiousity sake I've deleted the OpenDune folder from the phone's memory card and replaced it with clean extracted OpenDune directory from your link again... and it still works, just starts and runs. Without my year 1993 files. Definitely some incompability there...

But it's so nice to have it ported to S60v3, thanks again for your work!

  4. On the n82 does not start. P.I.P.S installed. When you start a black screen appears and immediately flies. But other games work fine here.

  6. From your post I get it we can use different midi files to play in-game music? Can the external midi files be used as in-game music? Such as exported soundtrack from Dune 2000? :)

    2PrisonPlanet:
Probably not, just you can change the midi "player" which you can set through the DOS Setup.

    Thanks again !

  9. Guys, try adding all the files from DOS Dune 2 archive (google "abandonia" for instance) to E:\OpenDune\Data, I did it and it helped me finally run the game, before that it just blinked with black screen.
